Museums & Galleries of NSW

In June 2023, we began an exciting partnership with Museums & Galleries of NSW to support its Storyplace Roadshow project.

Storyplace Roadshow is a touring program that focuses on working with regional museum staff, volunteers and collections to develop object-centred stories and associated educational resources for regional museums. We are supporting the roadshow by creating instructional videos and running a series of face-to-face workshops on a range of professional development topics, including collection storage, significance assessment and object-based learning.

Video resources

To date, our Learning, Collections Care and Curatorial teams have been working with our M&GNSW partners to develop a series of short videos that will be available to download or stream over the coming months. Designed for small to medium-sized local and regional museums, the videos explore practical and technical aspects of collection storage, assessing collection significance and using objects to engage students with history.

The first of these are now available!

Delivering on-the-ground workshops in regional centres

Our Collections Care team visited Tamworth in September 2023 to deliver a workshop on collection housing and storage to representatives from the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame, Barraba Historical Society, Callala Cottage, Tamworth Power Station Museum, Tamworth Regional Astronomy and Science Centre, Tamworth Regional Film and Sound Archive and Tamworth Regional Gallery.

Representatives from our Learning and Curatorial teams will travel to various locations in 2024. In March, the Learning team will visit Albury (6th) and Alstonville (20th) to facilitate workshops on learning in museums, with a focus on attracting school groups and developing engaging learning experiences. A workshop on assessing the significance of collection artefacts is planned for April/May. Details to come.

MHNSW is delighted to be sharing our collections and expertise with museums and audiences around NSW. We embrace the opportunity to collaborate with Museums & Galleries NSW to support regional museums in caring for collections of enormous significance that tell the stories of their places and people to audiences of all ages and backgrounds through Storyplace.
